I am most concerned about these appalling proposals and wish them to be overturned. Please can you tell me what the attitude is of your organisation to the proposals for new houses in Leckhampton?

Apologies for the reply to you posting but I’ve only just logged onto the site.
Unfortunately, I don’t think the people of Cheltenham realise the impact such a large number of homes will have on the town; it’s hard enough now to get appointments with my doctor (I phoned tonight and was told a month!), hospitals, non existant NHS dentists, water pressure, drains, road congestion, even the impact of thouands more people using our already busy supermarkets each week.
All of the above affect us wherever we live. All of us around Cheltenham are lucky to live in an area of outstanding natural beauty and therefore instead of trying to push the housing to another part of the town (which will not reduce the overall impact), we should stand together to fight the homes!

Article from the Daily Express 1.11.08
”More than a quarter of a million private homes stood empty in England last year according to the Halifax who are now calling on the Government to bring in tax breaks to encourage owners to do them up, rent them or sell them…..Eight local authorities had more than 5% of their public dwelling stock vacant… The findings also revealed 85,965 vacant council houses in England despite record high waiting lists for council housing…”
WHY BUILD MORE HOUSES ON GREENBELT WHEN PRESENTLY THERE IS ENOUGH EMPTY HOUSES FOR EVERYONE??????

Good point Glenn – thanks for pointing this out. CBC has I believe stated that housing waiting lists can be met from stock or land within the town without the need for urban expansion – we’ll get confirmation on that.
